Njombe Country Side

CHASAKI, is an abbreviation of my three names Charles Samson Kiswaga. I was born in Iringa urban in 1972. I am a fifth child in the family of seven children. I attended primary and secondary education there in Iringa and completed secondary education in 1991.

From there, I did not get a chance to continue with further education, alternatively I continued with painting and drawing activity which I started to do since my childhood (from age of 6 yrs old). So I migrated to Njombe where I employed myself in painting activity (painting of pictures, and buildings) until 2001 when I decided to go back to Iringa in order to join with vocational training college (VETA).

I spent two years at the college from 2002 to 2003 where I was awarded a Level two certificate In Painting, decoration and Signwriting. In It, I was trained painting of buildings, pictures, and motor vehicle painting (Spraying).

In January 2004 I returned to Njombe continuing with painting activity. In May 2007, my friends and I together we set a craft bazaar at Njombe town. That was the occasion made me realize the value of art and suddenly forced me to think of finding a suitable college for sharpening my career.

In July 2009 I joined with Bagamoyo college of Arts and Culture where I spent three years until July 2012 and been awarded a Diploma in Arts. I took fine arts as a major subject and Drama as a minor. I enjoyed drama very much as a new thing to me and I regarded it as a good refreshment for my fine art studies.

Meanwhile I was enjoying much with fine arts training because nearly three quarters of the practicals were already practiced at home during my entire life of painting before joining there.

For sure, by the guidance of skilful instructors, the Arts training at Bagamoyo opened my eyes and brain to face the global art conversation.
